'Old Time Farmhouse Memory'

When I was very little, we lived way out in the country.
And we had an outhouse. No bathroom.
I have vivid memories of having to trek out there to do my business.
I remember that during the summer, it would get hot and smelly in there.
My solution was to leave the door open. Hey, I was only three years old.
And who cares? We were in the middle of nowhere.
I remember one summer day, I went in and left the door open.
Just then we had company pull into the driveway and pull up near the outhouse.
It was my Aunt and my cousins honking the horn and laughing at me.
Basically, they caught me with my pants down. Pfffttt...I was three and I didn't care.
At that age, forget modesty. Didn't even know what it was.
I was a farmhouse gal all about comfort. Even at the age of three.

How about you? Have any smelly stories or memories of the outhouse?

Sending hugs from the farmhouse,

Good Morning, Cindy! Wow! I get the first feature? Truly an honor! And, Susie's gonna love her prize--congrats to her! I do have an outhouse story--but not as good as yours--I wanted to use the outhouse for my playhouse. Grandmother had it all fixed up in pretty pinks and I thought it would make a grand playhouse!I have no idea why Mom objected, do you? LOL
Hugs from my Farmhouse,

Hi Cindy! I can't believe that I won the beautiful prize that you made! I mean I am jumping up and down with delight over here!!! That is going to be so pretty in my home, I can't wait!!! Yes, I love Dru's farmhouse style, too! She has such beautiful pictures of her wonderful home items. Yummy! Your first party was a lot of fun. I look forward to many more and will enjoy watching this grow! As far as your outhouse story, That is so cute, and funny! I can just picture you in my head sitting there kicking, wondering what all the commotion w3as about! My mom tells me stories about using an outhouse when she was little. Her big brother, 7 years her elder was supposed to take her out at night. And the ornery little guy would love to make noises outside and scare her the whole time! She also said she hated having to run out there after a snow fall in the cold weather!
I will e-mail you Cindy, thank you so very much! Congratulations on your feature, Dru!

Hi, loved your story. My best friend grew up with an out house. I have great memories of playing there and how spooky it was to get up during the night to do our business.
I am your newest follower and look forward to seeing more from you.

Congratulations to the winner!
Heck... what am I doing??? I have gone backwards...I use an outhouse while in Wyoming (and this time I had to share it with the builders...that was not fun!) Thank goodness for lime! It really works!
I DO leave the door open too (but of course not while they were around) at least the door is close so I can slam it shut if need be!
I promise I will try my best to join in on the fun next time... but I might have my stupid surgery set by then too so just not sure...I'll join in eventually...I'm really excited about your linky parties!

I was so HOMESICK all week...it was the longest week of my life and I still remember that! Roxie

Congrats to Susie on winning your giveaway!! And congrats to Dru for havingthe most views!!
I spent a lot of time at my aunt and uncles farm when I was litte. I hated it when they were remodeling their bathroom and we would have to go outside to use the outhouse when it was dark outside. We would take the flash-light and just hope that no creatures would get us between the house and the outhouse. We also worried if any creatures would be in the outhouse when we got there. LOL...

Hi there, Cindy. I'm visiting from Little Susie's blog, and she was so right, you have a wonderful blog!
I come from South Alabama, are you kidding, I have LOTS of outhouse stories! :-)
I spoke my first sentence in the outhouse, my grandmother told me if I didn't hurry up she was going to leave me in there.
I told her if she did, I would run away, too!!
She left me anyway...went running inside the house to tell my mother I spoke a whole sentence!!!
I just love your blog and will visit often.

Congrats to the winner of your nice giveaway! My mom always hated going to the outhouse at her grandparents because you had to go thru the chicken's fence to get there and they would chase you! Jean

When I was little my grandparents CAMP in Clarion PA had an outhouse. This camp was an old one room schoolhouse and to use the outhouse you had to go way way back to the far end of the back yard. I loved that place, though. I think that we went there until I was about 5 years old or so, and then a highway came through and they had to sell the property.
