My Christmas

This is a busy season, isn't it!?!
I'm taking a less is more stance this year.
I have to as I have been working on the living room.
Removing wallpaper, repairing cracks, and brushing on a new paint color.
Who does that at Christmas? Really!

And it takes me a little longer these days.
As I'm getting older, I have to pace myself so I won't have any flare ups with my health.
So a little bit here and a little bit there. It will get done. In my time. During Christmas.

I had to share a photo of my little Charlie Brown Christmas tree.
Poor thing. I'm trying to save it after I found it being neglected.
I'm a tree hugger and this little one gives me hope during this holiday season.

I Have a Problem

Yes, I do.
I have a problem.
Any of you have a love/hate relationship with Blogger?
Yes, my problem is with Blogger. So what else is new?

One of my readers let me know that my word verification is on.
You know what that means. You want to leave a comment and try over and over again to type in the little code only to get it wrong over and over again. It's too hard to read. Then you get fed up and say forget about it and leave without commenting. Been there. Done that.

Well...I don't have word verification on. It is showing up in the comment form, but it is turned off in my settings. So now I'm wondering how long it has been on while it is really off. How do I turn it off when it is already off? That is a problem.

I've done a search, but all I'm coming up with are the basic directions on how to turn it off in settings.
I repeat. It is already turned off. Sigh. Has anyone had this problem or know how to correct it?

December Garden and Lake

My garden looks...well, a little sad and even abandoned. That's December for you.
Even though it may not look it, it had its fall cleaning and some straw tucked in here and there.
It's snug as a bug in a rug.

There is some life hidden in my garden. I have kale, carrots, and beets...oh my.
As cool weather crops, they do well under some plastic during the cold, winter months.

And the lake looks a little forlorn today, but not every day.
The winter months on the lake can be quite beautiful and I never tire of the view.
No matter what the season or the look, I consider my garden and the lake my backyard blessings.

And I am thankful.

I Met My Best Friend Today

I finally met her today. My best friend.
We found each other through blogging.
A true connection.
We became best buds.
Then we became like sisters.
How can that be when we had never met?

Well, she traveled many miles to see me.
It was like we have known each other for a lifetime.
And we were like two little kids.
We couldn't stop talking. We couldn't stop sharing. We couldn't stop laughing.
She gets me. I get her. Nuff said. Yep, we're family.

You can get to know her, too.
Visit my best friend, Dru (and her wonderful husband, John) at The Country Farm Home.
They live on a historical cotton farm that has been in her family for many years.
And the next trip? I'll be headed her way for a sweet visit in the spring. If not sooner!

For now...sending y'all some farmhouse hugs!!!

Ho, Ho, Ho...Hey!

Hey...is it Christmas already!?!
Feels like it with all this cold and snow, doesn't it?
I have to admit that my front porch looks ridiculous with my fall decor competing with the snow and cold weather. But I'm still not ready to decorate for Christmas. I usually wait until Thanksgiving weekend.

Apparently, some of my relatives have their Christmas trees up. Wow, good for them.
Times sure have changed from when I was a little girl. You did not decorate until right before Christmas.
A lot of families even waited until Christmas Eve to put up their trees.

One of my most vivid memories as a child is of my grandmother decorating for the holidays.
One year, she decided to enter a contest and had to have her outside decor up the first week of December. We lived in a small town and it became the talk of the town that her decor was up so early. I even had 2 snotty girls march up to me at school and started badgering me about my grandmother putting her decorations up so early. LOL! My, how times have changed.

I will admit that not much indoor decor will happen this year.
I've gotten myself into a fun mess. Stripping wallpaper and such. More on that later.
But, I do have my front porch. I can still decorate it for Christmas.
Maybe...after it warms up some and all the snow melts.
Maybe.

Just Dreamin'...

A cold, lazy Saturday calls for pokin' through some shops and doing some dreamin'.
All by myself.  :)
I pushed and shoved my way through a barn. A huge barn. Three stories of barn goodness.

Next, was a cute, little shop with a variety of vendor booths.
I could see myself set up there if I wanted to be in a shop.

Then there was this shop. This shop was for sale.

Built as a home in 1910.
The merchandise did not catch my attention, but the house did.
I started looking at it as if I was a potential buyer.

I could easily live in the back of this home which has a new addition on it.
The front had 4 to 5 rooms that could easily be used as my shop.
How great would that be?

Now this won't be happening due to the timing.
And that's okay. It's always fun to dream a little.

Here Comes The Sun

Cold. Dreary days. Dark by 6:00 pm.
Not my favorite time of the year.
So where did our wonderful fall season go?
It left us all much too quickly.

I'm like this sunflower. I need the sunshine in order to bloom.
Without it, I'm pretty pathetic. And it's a struggle.
But today...the sun came out!!! So I'm smiling!!!

I miss my sunflower. It was a surprise gift over the summer.
A critter dropped a seed right in the middle of my garden. Center stage.
And it flourished. Better than any that I planted myself as it stood over 7 feet high.

I have to say that I'm looking forward to nice weather again. And I will be planting more sunflowers.
So, today, I'm wishing you some sunshine and hope you flourish wherever you are planted.
Just like my sunflower.

Show Business

Show business.
I'm not talking Hollywood.
I'm talking about having your own business and you set up at shows for promotion and sales.
So I did this show back in October with my soaps. It was crazy.

I've decided that doing shows aren't for everyone. And that includes me.
I used to do shows all the time.
Back in the old days. When I was young. Not so much anymore. LOL!

But because of this show...I had some shops approach me that want to carry my soap.
Wholesale. That I think I can handle.

There are so many ways to do a business. Right now I prefer my online shop.
And my soaps will be added soon.
Nothing's better than being in the comfort of my own home and making money from something I enjoy doing.

Mother Hubbard, I Love Cupboards

I don't know about you, but...
I believe one can never have too many cupboards.
Whether they are jelly cupboards, Hoosier cabinets, or a hutch or two...
they are wonderful for storage and eye candy for your farmhouse decor.

So you can imagine my delight as I saw this.

Well, Mother Hubbard! I squealed! And then I saw more!

Good old hubby kept saying, 'We don't have the truck, anymore.'
See, this was a shop we stopped in while in TN over the weekend.
This shop was loaded with good stuff and these cupboards were all on the second floor.

And there even more cupboards down at the other end.
Most of them were in the $300-$400 range.

I could put a cupboard in every room if I had the space.
When hubby reminded me that we no longer had the truck, I told him we could always bring the utility trailer next time. (SMILE)

TN Colors

We went on a road trip to TN (and VA) over the weekend.
I was so looking forward to seeing all the beautiful fall colors on the mountains.
Unfortunately, it was raining and dreary the whole trip there.
No problem, I thought. We have the whole weekend.
Then the next morning...

...black and white, no color. It snowed.
And it was beautiful, just a different kind.
As we drove the back roads, some of the scenery just took my breath away.
(Sorry, these photos are with my cell phone.)

Once we entered VA there was not as much snow, but a mix of color with some white.
The above photo is my daughter's back yard, her barn and mountain.
She loves having her own mountain. LOL! The high point is out of view to the right.

This photo is on our way home right before we entered KY.
I love this little stretch as it is so lovely. And so peaceful with snow on the mountain tops.
It makes me want to get out of the car, take a walk, and experience the beauty .

Good Saturday

Good Saturday to ya'll!
October is a wonderful month...
with the leaves putting on a fanciful show,
the cool mornings greeting us hello,
and the feeling of appreciation rising up for this blessed season.

My being extremely busy in preparing for a show will soon come to an end.
The show is next weekend and I believe I'm almost ready.
Rustic soaps, vintage items, and farmhouse decor will set the stage.
After the show, I plan to find my blogging rhythm again.

And I do want to let you know that today I'm being featured at the blog, Must Love Junk!
Susan is a great gal with such a talent for decor.
We'd both be pleased if you stopped by for a visit.
I'm sharing a few tidbits about me there that I've never shared here before.

Hmmm...are you curious, yet?
Hope to see you there.
Farmhouse hugs!

Vintage Hankies

I have piles of vintage hankies. I didn't try to collect any.
It just happened. A few would be tucked in here and there in boxes at auctions.
And before I knew it, I had a collection. A collection sitting in drawers and not being used.

Well, I decided to pull them out, along with some lace that also came from an auction, to make a bunting. I'll use it to jazz up my space at the show I'll soon be doing. This is a quick pic of it. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some shots of it hanging in my space to share with you later.

I actually enjoy being creative and using what I have to make my show space special. Of course, it helps when I have a good stash of supplies and vintage items on hand.

I sewed these on the machine with large stitches in case I want to take them out at a later date.
I just might want to hang this bunting in my soaping room after the show. We'll see.
Now if I could just figure out what to do with all the other linens I have stashed away.

How about you?
Do you have your own stash?

Cute Couple

I would like to introduce you to a really cute couple...
Plain Jane and Just John.

Jane is on the left dressed in yellow and John is the one on the right in blue.
They are two of my unscented soaps that will make an appearance at a show I'll soon be doing.

Did I tell you I decided to do a show? It has been years since I've gone this route, but...
what a great way to officially start my new business.

So ready or not, on October 18,
I'll be in Glendale, KY with a mix of handcrafted, vintage, and new items available for sale.

Oh, and about Plain Jane and Just John.
Nothing ordinary about them as their names may suggest.
They are filled with the goodness of Shea butter and vitamin E.
And Plain Jane also has white kaolin clay just for us girls.

Simplicity at it's best.
Farmhouse hugs!

A Tad of Old Time Pickin'

We went to Ohio over the weekend and I had to make a quick stop to look for enamelware.
Found some!

I had to grab that pulley and the letterpress drawer, too.

I have piles and piles of enamelware in my basement.
Today, I started pulling it all out of boxes and washed every single piece.
My hands weren't pleased with that decision, but they felt better after an application of shea butter.

Plans for all that enamelware?
Well, it will be paired up with my handcrafted soaps and be up for sale.
Rustic and Simple. A vintage farmhouse look.
I think it will be a good fit. For me. My shop. And my buyers.

New Season

I'm ready.
Ready for Autumn.

I'm ready to...
wear soft, cozy sweaters,
drink yummy hot cocoa,
make my homemade soups and breads,
sit by the fire pit with a glass of wine enjoying the warmth of a fire,
enjoy the smell of my freshly baked cookies,
walk my dogs in the cool, crisp mornings,
and
just move about to a slower rhythm while taking the time to appreciate it all.

Yep, fall is my favorite time of the year.
I'm ready for the new season.
How about you?

Wild Woman Here

Yes, I know.
I've been missing in action.
I haven't written a post in ages.
I haven't taken time to visit anyone.
But really...would you when you look and feel like this?

My hair is a mess.
I have bags under my eyes.
My feet hurt.
Blah, blah, blah.
LOL!

I'm not asking for any sympathy. Just please accept my apologies.
Life is still good cause I've been working on this...

Yep...a new business adventure.
And I'm making soap. Lots of soap.
And more soap. Hundreds of bars of soap.
And I think I'm getting high on the fumes from the essential oils.
In a good way that is.  :)

So I'm trying to get into a routine and find the rhythm for my day.
I'm getting there. And I'll be back on here soon.
So much more to tell.
Y'all have a wonderful weekend!!!
