Bee Happy

I love bees! Such fascinating little critters.
So small, yet so crucial and significant when it comes to our food supply.
So you can imagine how excited I was when I saw honey bees.
Yes...I saw honey bees! In my garden.

You may be thinking 'big deal'. But it is a big deal!
I have not had honey bees in my garden for a few years now.
Oh, I've had other bees like mason bees and bumblebees.
So where were all the honey bees?

This year, I noticed one little gal coming all by her lonesome.
Even though I was happy to see her come every day, I wondered why she was not inviting her friends.
She should have been going back to the hive and doing her happy dance to tell all the other bees about my great garden.

Then the other day, I noticed that she did tell all her gal pals. I was surrounded by honey bees.
Lots of happy honey bees. Working away in my garden.

What can I say? Thank goodness. Thank God.
And one day? I hope to become a beekeeper.
Bee happy, y'all!

You Know You Are Getting Old When...

You make oatmeal soap and forget to put the oatmeal in!!!
LOL! I must be getting old!

Recently, I've invested the time, energy, and money into making my own soaps.
And I hope to be able to sell my soaps someday soon.
Anyway, I've been playing with my own formulas and determining what I like.

I knew that I wanted an oatmeal soap so that is what I worked on yesterday.
I thought adding honey and cinnamon would really complement the oatmeal. Don't you think so?
I must have been too excited about the possibilities. The honey made it in. The cinnamon made it in.
And I added a few extras to make the soap a little more special.

I plopped the soap into the mold and was quite pleased with myself.
Until I saw the oatmeal sitting there on the counter. All by itself. All forgotten.
What the heck!?! Am I getting old? Sigh.

So here I have some fresh bars of oatmeal soap sitting on my counter with no oatmeal.
Wait, new idea! I'll just say that this is my honey and cinnamon soap. Yes, that will do.
Forget the idea that I'm getting old. I'm just creative as all get out!
Yep, that's it. I'm creative.

Stubborn as a Mule

This is Chip. Chip and his impression of a mule.
I'm pulling. He's put on the brakes. He can be a stubborn little fella.
We were ready to walk across the dam when this occurred.
He walks across the dam everyday. But this day was different.

On our walk the day before he heard a gun go off. And he is afraid of guns.
So now, he was associating walking across the dam with gun shots.
So...here I am. Pulling him. All the way across the dam.
Telling him he needed to face his fears. Yes.
"Face your fears, Chip! Face your fears!"

Now I know some folk who are just like this. They have their fears.
They are not open to new possibilities, always putting on the brakes.
There is a whole wonderful world out there.
We shouldn't put limitations on ourselves, but we do.

As small children, we have no fear. We believe we can do anything.
That is...until we are told otherwise and then it becomes a self belief.
As adults we need to have more faith so we can move forward.
Try new things. Experience life to the fullest.
We just need to believe it will be okay.

And Chip...he's back to his old self. He faced his fear and is enjoying his walks again.
Lesson learned. It will be okay.

Just A Little Bit

A good Monday to ya!

We just did a little bit of pickin' over the weekend.
Made a few stops while traveling to Ohio for my Father's birthday.

Stopping to look for old time treasures sure makes a long trip more fun and exciting.
I'm quite happy with what we found.

A good mix of wood and rustic pieces.

You may have noticed that I am starting to hoard enamelware.
I have plans for it that I'll share another time.

Next comes the cleaning, the bookkeeping, the photos, the research, and the listings for the shop.
All in the life of a picker.

Have a good one, my farmhouse friends!
