A Past Farm Fresh Feature

Hey...how's the weather?
It's a fabulous and freezing Friday here!

I'd like to thank you for the feedback on the idea of giving life again to my Farm Fresh Feature.
I emailed everyone a thank you, but my email went down for almost 2 weeks.
So...I'll thank you here for the feedback and positive responses.

I'd like to share another Farm Fresh Feature from the past.
I'm sure y'all know Angie from Knick of Time.

Angie pointed out to me that we had similar styles and I had to agree.
Can't help but love a vintage farmhouse style.

Snowbound and Busy

We're stuck here at home with over 12 inches of snow and more on the way.
Snowbound and not going anywhere soon.

And it is so cold that the lake is almost completely frozen over.

I'm staying indoors as much as possible and staying busy.
I'm redoing our kitchen cabinets with a glaze and poly finish.
Just one of my many projects going on here.

I'll share soon.
And if anyone wants any snow, I have plenty of that to share, too!

Pass the Chocolate

Hi. My name is Cindy and I'm a chocoholic.
I like to have chocolate everyday. Yes, everyday.
I love my chocolate so much that at one time I owned a franchise called Candy Bouquet.
I was able to play and smell and eat chocolates all day long.
The thing is that now I prefer healthy alternatives without all the sugar and bad ingredients that can be added. So...I found a recipe and then tweaked it. Do you do that? I find myself changing up a recipe to make it fit my wants and needs. Anyhoo, here is the recipe and I call it Sweet Treats.
1/2 cup Coconut Oil, melted and added at room temperature
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup natural nut butter (I use organic almond butter with no sugars added)
Up to 1/4 cup raw honey (this can be adjusted to your own personal taste and in combination with stevia) 
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Combine in a food processor. Pour into ice cube trays and put in freezer to harden.
When formed, pop out of trays and enjoy. Extra needs to be stored in fridge.
You can also use cute candy molds if you have them.

Bee My Honey

I'm so excited! I just attended my first beekeeping class.
I want bees. I want honey. I want beeswax.
I've been so interested in the possibility of keeping bees.
I just need to make sure it's a good fit for me before I jump into doing it.

As you probably know, our bees are in trouble. They are dying and their numbers are dwindling.
When I was a kid, there were bees everywhere. Not so much anymore.
I plant flowers specifically to bring the bees to my garden because I need them. We all need them. 

I've always been fascinated with bees. One of my first memories is being stung by a bumblebee. I was in the backyard of my grandparent's home at the age of 3 or 4 playing with my cousin. I saw the bee land on clover and I told my cousin that bees were nice and don't hurt you. Well, I proceeded to prove that theory by cupping my hands over the bee to capture him. Meanwhile, my cousin was screaming at me, 'NO, Cindy, NO!!!' Too late. Of course the bee stung me. And I remember crying and running into the house for sympathy and attention. It was a family gathering and all the women were hustling about in the kitchen preparing a meal for all of us. Needless to say...there was no time to baby me over a little bee sting. I do remember a baking soda paste was made and applied to my little injury. And here I am 50 some years later, still wanting to play with bees and prove that they are nice. 

Bees can be nice if handled properly. That is what I want to learn.
Our instructors handled the bees with no gloves and let the bees crawl on their hands.
 The photo above is of fellow class members suited up to help the instructors.
We will actually be building a hive and will be able to release bees into it.
I do want to become comfortable handling bees, I do...but for now...I think I'll be wearing gloves.
And I think after this first class, there's no turning back. 
I'm in love and in awe of these amazing little creatures.

Farm Fresh Feature

Good Monday morning, y'all!
Okay, I've been thinking. Thinking about bringing back the Farm Fresh Feature.
I miss it, Some of you may remember it. It's been awhile.
It was where, once a month, a country type blogger was featured here.
I enjoyed doing it, but I felt it was quite a bit of work for the blogger who was being featured.
That blogger had to submit photos and answer questions that would be of interest to the readers. 
If I was one of the big name bloggers, I could see how anyone I asked would want to be featured.
But, I'm not a big blogger.

I'm just a simplistic, country gal who enjoys having a blog. No huge audience or followers.
I'm all about no frills, no fuss, no foo foos. So...what to do?
I think, for now, I'll revisit the old Farm Fresh Features and share them with you.
Then I'll get a feel if I want to start them up again. 
So here we go!

Way back when...I introduced you to The Farmer's Daughter at The Country Farm Home, my first Farm Fresh Feature.

Over the last few years, she has become my best friend and a soul sister.

She has a fabulous style that I adore and she inspires me so.
